Though the Doctrine of Election is sometimes considered controversial and, by some, unbiblical (or at the very least, completely redefined so as to leave it meaningless), it is a thoroughly biblical doctrine. There is no way that I could unpack all of the teaching and implications of this doctrine during a single sermon, but I tried to lay out the basic argument in favor of it’s Truth from the Word of God.
I used to reject this doctrine because, frankly, I didn’t like it (mainly because I was ignorant of it). I relied on the caricatures presented by those who also rejected it (often because of their own belief in the caricatures!). Studying it over the last 20 years, I came to embrace it and love this doctrine because it puts God in His rightful place as the Sovereign, and me in my rightful place as the sinful recipient of pure grace.
Man-centered theology that puts man’s choice over and above God’s will, is, as Paul would say, another gospel. It is a dangerous place to be. I encourage you to prayerfully listen and depend on the Spirit of God to reveal the Truth of the Word of God in your own life.
