Every so often the computer gets backed up and the “pinwheel of death” on my Mac gets to spinning. That’s when I know that it’s time to restart my computer. Too many operations are going that have clogged up the system so that nothing that I’m trying to accomplish is working. A reboot is required. So, I shut it down and start up again.
That seems to happen to me periodically, as well. I get busy with so many different things that I begin to clog up so that nothing is really being done well. More importantly, none of the things I really want to accomplish are getting done at all.
So, now is a good time for that. A couple of months into the new year (plenty of time for resolution fever to have subsided), it’s a great time to look again at goals and passions. What am I supposed to be doing that will bring a good, godly balance into my life? What am I doing with the gift of time that has been given to me? What about the priorities I have? Do they look like priorities? Am I accomplishing the things that I should be accomplishing and the things I want to be accomplishing that will help me arrive at my God-given dreams? Quick note: A good starting question is whether or not you even have any God-given dreams…you don’t get those without prayer, by the way.
For me, today will be a lot about engaging in that process: evaluating my hopes and dreams, determining if they are truly God-inspired and, thus, worthy of my attention, and then setting out goals, deadlines and metrics to move me down the road.
What about you? Do you have any of those? Are you making progress? Maybe it’s time for a reboot.
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” ~ Ephesians 5:15-16
